EconUnited’s Applied Economics Olympiad (EAEO)

The Applied Economics Olympiad is a national, online competition for high school students designed to test real-world economic thinking, financial reasoning, and policy analysis. This isn’t memorization. This is application.

What’s involved?

Participants take on two rigorous sections:

Section 1: MCQ Assessment
Test your understanding of core economic and financial concepts — from micro & macroeconomics to personal finance and investing.

Section 2: Policy Scenario
Teams are given a real economic problem with clear constraints (budgets, time horizons, trade-offs). Over two weeks, you’ll design, justify, and defend a policy solution using data, models, and economic reasoning.
